Doug Sikkema, Board Chair 

Doug brings over a decade of involvement in Ontario Christian education to the Oak Hill community. With a Bachelor of Education from OISE (2009), Doug has taught several years in the Christian private sector before turning to research that school sector in both Canada and the US while working as a researcher with Cardus. Doug is currently wrapping up a doctorate in English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching courses in the Humanities and English departments at Redeemer University College. Doug has been captivated by the vision of classical Christian schooling for a long time, and particularly with Oak Hill Academy from its earliest days. Doug and Vanessa are members of New City PCA and have lived in Hamilton for over ten years with their four children Eli and Avery, Jackson, and Samuel, and their Yellow Labrador Maggie.

Courtney Hordyk

Together with her husband Joel, Courtney runs Cameron St. Visual Storytelling, a visual media company. Discovering the classical model when her oldest was a few years old she became determined to have her children educated classically. This started out with a year of homeschooling before finding out about the start of Oak Hill. Seeing the school become a reality for not only her own children, but for many others in the Hamilton area is a dream realized and prayer answered. Always an avid reader some of her favourite reads include Jane EyreThe Picture of Dorian GrayLes MiserablesThe Count of Monte CristoAnna Kareninaand Great Expectations. Joel and Courtney live in Ancaster with their three children, Beckett, Felix and Vivienne and are members at Blessings Christian Church.

Samuel Overduin, Treasurer

Samuel Overduin works as a sales and marketing manager at Bay-Lynx Manufacturing in Ancaster, Ontario and is responsible for the development of Bay-Lynx products both nationally and internationally. He is also involved in the strategic development of the business in regards to growth and sustainability. Samuel is married to Cara, and they have two young children, Conrad and Tessa. They currently worship at Pilgrim Baptist in Hamilton. Samuel’s involvement with Oak Hill Academy began from his desire to see children being intentionally taught godly character, wisdom, biblical history, and truth in a Christ-centered curriculum.
