Part-time Drama Teacher 7-12

The position. We are looking for a gifted drama teacher to lead our upper school drama program and performances (Grades 7-12), 1-3 sections. The ideal candidate will be an experienced drama artist and an effective teacher with a passion to inspire students to love what God loves through the arts. This teacher will build upon the excellent foundation of classical theatre here at Oak Hill Academy. 

Scope

It will include the following during the months of January to April: 

  • At least one section of Grade 9-12 students, occurring extracurricular / after school for 0.5 or 1.0 credit), running January to April (possibly later, TBD in consultation with the teacher); 
  • Possibly 1-2 additional sections (Grade 7 and 8), twice per week each, January to April. 

All sections can be scheduled on the same two days Mon-Thu. 

Responsibilities 

  • Teach the art and science and heart of drama to our students. Bring it to life. Bring them to life. This is a performing oratory art, and complements our school’s training in virtue and rhetoric, “the good person speaking well.” 
  • Lead classes and develop (or source) drama lesson curriculum. We have 
  • *Lead one performance (play or musical) for each section they teach. 
  • *Scripts: Find, vet, and select … also edit and contact playwrights as appropriate.
  • *Casting: Arrange auditions and cast characters. 
  • *Graphic design: posters and programs (negotiable)
  • *Set and prop design
  • Costume design and planning
  • Lighting design
  • Coordinate AV needs
  • Procure necessary props (we have a growing and inventoried prop collection) 
  • Rehearsals: conduct, schedule extras if needed, and coordinate with administration 
  • Attend ~2-3 days of staff training during the last week of summer.

Qualifications. Our ideal candidate is / has: 

  • A growing and living faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and membership/ commitment to a local Christian church. 
  • An active or previously practicing actor or actress, with experience with classical theatre or other relevant experience. 
  • Articulate convictions on the special role drama can play in forming wisdom and virtue for life in Christ in this world.
  • Experience selecting, editing, and casting for classical theatre. 
  • Experience directing, producing, and/or staging theatre productions. 
  • Working knowledge of set design, lighting design, audio design, costuming, and stage management. 
  • Ability to teach speech and the skills of voice projection and body language to Grade 7-12 students. 
  • Able to lead and manage orderly, inspiring drama classes
  • Hold appropriately high standards for scripts, students, and performance. 

Compensation: ranges from $55-75 per hour of in-class instruction (inclusive of all prep time).

Senior Kindergarten Teacher – Aug 2026 start

We are looking for a wonderful teacher to love and teach our Kindergarten students.  

Using our curriculum, the teacher will plan and teach all lessons (phonics, math, Bible, read aloud, nature study, art, PE, and others). This person will value spending time in nature, using poems and stories to teach and inspire, and be diligent in nurturing good habits in young children. This person will have a deep appreciation of nature and the arts – an enthusiasm for studying the created world and our cultural heritage of art, music, and theatre. This teacher will create an orderly, kind, and calm classroom. They will hold a strong view of the students as image bearers of God, shepherding the students’ hearts and minds as they grow in character and love for God and others.

Part-time Music Teacher 7-12 (possibly with Drama) – August 2026 start

The study of music values excellence, commitment, and a constant search for beauty. We are looking for a person who values the same.

The position. We are looking for a gifted music teacher to lead our upper school music program (Grades 7-12). This position may or may not include teaching drama also (to be determined, based on the candidate’s strengths). 

The ideal candidate will be an active musician / drama artist and an effective teacher with a passion to inspire students to love what God loves through the arts. This person will be willing to learn about classical education theory and implement classical teaching practices in their class. They will take our developed curriculum, and further curate beautiful music from both classical and folk traditions to instruct, delight, and inspire virtue. The music teacher will teach vocal performance, choir etiquette, listening skills, music theory, and composer history, and instrumental performance (Grade 7-8). 

We are looking for a musician who:  

  • Holds and articulates deep biblical convictions of the importance of music for virtue and life. 
  • Will create an orderly, calm, and inspiring class atmosphere. Beauty and the arts are high priority at Oak Hill, as Music, Theatre, and Art play a critical role in shaping the affections of our students.
  • Will develop a strong choir culture / singing culture with our Grade 7-12 students. 
  • Will cultivate a love of song and singing amongst all students, especially the young men 

Responsibilities 

  • Teach Grades 7 and 8 music (2 sections, twice per week each) – vocal and instrumental

Teaching Assistant (3 or 5 days/week) – Sep 2026 

Do you love coming alongside students to give them that extra attention so they can learn and love learning? Do you enjoy playing a supportive role to teachers? We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to serve our Grade 3 and 4 classes, with some support to the Grade 1 and 2 students as well.

Qualifications

Responsibilities 

  • Responsibilities include desk-to-desk support, teaching small groups of students, assisting with grading and records, setting up / cleaning up materials, and general teacher support.

Part-time Business Manager

This position is ideal for a professional who is semi-retired or looking for steady part-time work, who wants to contribute meaningfully to Kingdom education ministry. You’ll work with the school principal and treasurer and be supported by a finance assistant / bookkeeper so you can focus on the bigger picture.

We are looking for an experienced finance professional to oversee some business aspects of the school: financial management (70-80%), compliance and operations support (10-15%), and development and governance support (10-15%). Someone with a CPA designation or a strong financial background is preferred. A hybrid onsite/remote arrangement is possible.

  • Position Type: Regular part-time, 3 days per week 
  • Reports To: Principal 
  • Supervises: Finance Assistant

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

  • Oversee all accounting functions using QuickBooks Online including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
  • Develop and monitor annual operating budget with Principal
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, tuition payments, and financial assistance programs
  • Coordinate annual audit process and ensure CRA compliance for registered charities
  • Supervise Financial Assistant in regular clerical functions

Compliance & Operations Support 

  • Maintain compliance with registered charity status requirements and prepare required government filings (HST/GST, T4s, T3010) 
  • Oversee administration of payroll, employee benefits, HR files, and onboarding/ offboarding procedures 
  • Manage insurance policies and possibly manage vendor contracts

Development & Governance Support

  • Process donations and issue tax receipts using DonorPerfect 
  • Oversee maintenance of donor database 
  • Prepare financial reports and materials for Board meeting 
  • Attend Finance Committee meetings as required
  • Support Board Treasurer and Principal with financial oversight 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in financial management

  • Knowledge of Ontario employment standards and CRA charitable requirements

Candidating Process

1. Learn about classical education and Oak Hill Academy. Before you begin, candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with classical Christian education and the school’s philosophy and doctrine. Although a background in classical education is not required, our teachers are expected to teach classically.

2. Apply. Submit the following application documents via email (PDF format only please) to principal [at] oakhillhamilton.ca OR in hardcopy in person to 1886 Governor’s Road in Copetown.

a. Cover letter (1 page). In no more than one page, introduce yourself, note what subjects and grades you want to teach, and why you want to teach at a classical Christian school.

b. Personal story of faith (1 page). Note we are not asking for your personal doctrinal statement, but a narrative of your personal testimony.

c. Philosophy of education (1 page).

d. Resume.

e. Letters of reference (1 pastoral, 2 professional).

f. List of your favourite and recently read books.

3. Initial phone call interview. All applications will be reviewed and screened, and those that appear to align most closely with our school needs will be contacted for an initial phone call with the principal.

4. VSS and reference checks. If not already completed, the applicant’s references will be contacted by phone and applicants will be required to submit a recent Vulnerable Sector Scan report (i.e. a “police check”) in original. Applicants who have a successful interview and satisfactory references and VSS report will proceed to a teaching observation.

5a. Interview. Applicants with a successful initial phone call will be invited to meet the principal and school leadership team for an interview.

5b. Teaching observation. Applicants successful to this point will be required to teach lessons of the school’s choosing for up to two hours. We will provide context, lesson details, and necessary materials. Applicants will submit in advance their lesson plans or notes to the Principal for review.

6. Follow up. The school will follow up on any loose ends as necessary with the candidate or references prior to making a decision.

7. Decision of Oak Hill Academy. Based on the all the information gathered in the above steps, the principal alongside the board decides whether to make an offer of employment. All candidates who have made it this far will be notified in writing of the school’s decision. If the school would like to move forward, an offer of employment is made. If accepted, an onboarding process will begin.
